ABOUT US

Anchor 1

RHUL Thai Boxing club has been established at Royal Holloway since 1996 and is part of a premier, international MMA organisation. It all started with Gavin Davis, coming to study at Royal Holloway, who was able to begin instructing and so in a position to deliver classes to students of the university. During this time the club has enjoyed many successes and was recognised as the largest sports club on campus with more active members than what has traditionally been football, rugby and hockey with as many as 250 students taking part in one or more training sessions a week. It has attracted seminars that have been hosted by Chief Instructor Colin Heron and also Former British, European, Commonwealth and World Champion, Neil Woods. Demonstrations for the Lord Mayor at the official opening of the RHUL Sports Centre and the first (of two) full contact Muay Thai tournaments to ever be held within the University of London.

Thai Boxing (Muay Thai) is a striking and clinching based martial art which was developed over centuries in Thailand. To this day it remains to be the national sport of Thailand. It is known by many as ‘The Art of Eight Limbs’. Thus is because the use of fists, elbows, shins and knees are a prominent part of the sport. Thai Boxing does not involve the groundwork that other Martial arts such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu offer and is out of all the stood up striking arts, one of the most applicable to real life situations.

The classes here are delivered by Alex Morris and Seb Jones, both part of the Kaobon coaching team. At RHUL Thai Boxing, no matter your age, ability or experience, with classes from beginners to advanced and with a top coach and support of the gym, you will be well looked after and are sure to get the most out of every class - whatever level you are and whatever you are looking for you will find the classes are hard, fast and fun.

MEMBERS

Members of the RHUL Thai Boxing club have the option to compete but are under no obligation to do so. Members have a variety of incentives for joining the club whether it be interest in competition, fitness weight loss or many other possible reasons they may have. We are a warm and welcoming club with plenty of opportunity to Socialise and to meet some brilliant people.

There will be plenty of socials throughout the year, which will vary from Pub Crawls, Student Union nights and even London nights. This will be a great opportunity to make friends and most importantly, have some crazy nights with the friends you make. More low key events such of ends of term meals or quiet drinks in the pub are also a possibility.

Why not come along and watch a lesson in progress; talk to the committee and see if you are ready to become part of the family!
